Works by Nancy Walker
“In 2016, I participated in a special month-long artist residency
in Tetouan, Morocco. The residency named “Convergence”
was created to bring artists from several countries together,
to work alongside one another while sharing a shared cultural
experience. During the residency we were encouraged to work
with local artists, artisans and art students. Sacred geometry,
language and local embroidery classes were offered. I chose
to work with a local leathersmith, in a shared project as well as
studing with several masters.
Weaving Morocco’s bold colors and patterns into my work was
on my mind. I wanted to record the patterns and designs that I
found in the arts & crafts.
In the year since my return, I’ve been creating pieces inspired
by all of the amazing connections that I made in Morocco. Many
relationships played a pivotal role in my journey and my growth
as an artist. The mixed media pieces and paintings that came out
of this process are as diverse as the people who inspired them.
Please join me in celebrating the culmination of this exciting
time at my exhibit “Incidentally Tetouan”on display from
July 1 – September 30, 2017.”
