This year’s Scholarship Program was a great success. Our annual program provides four $1,500 scholarships to seniors in our own 92007 and 92024 zip codes. This year we received many applications and selected four deserving students: Giuliana F. Carder, who plans to attend Boston University; Kate Lee Clark, who plans to attend UC Irvine; Sophia Kazmierowicz, who plans to attend Stanford; and Andrew Vincent Naimark, who plans to attend UC Berkeley.

Each of these young people shared with us, through their application essays, how libraries have enriched their lives. Whether through books, films, music, research, a computer or just quiet time, libraries helped all of them along their way. Now they are all headed to college to continue their studies and to share the importance of public libraries with others.

On June 3rd we gathered the students and their families for a Scholarship Presentation led by Jenny Paschall, Chair of the Scholarship Committee. Encinitas Mayor Catherine Blakespear presented the awards, and Donna Ohr spoke on behalf of the San Diego County Library administration.

We wish our recipients well as they begin their college careers and work toward their goals!
