The Friends of the Cardiff-by-the-Sea Library was founded in April 1984 as a support group for the library with the ultimate goal of a permanent new library on a dedicated site. To continue the tradition of community support and involvement, the Friends are offering five $1,000 college scholarships for graduating high school seniors. Who Is Eligible? Applicants must reside in zip codes 92007 or 92024, and be nearing completion of their senior year of high school with the intent of attending college the following fall. How To Apply? High school senior applicants must submit a biography, not to exceed 500 words, including but not limited to their reason for attending college, hobbies, extra-curricular activities, contributions to the community and their aspirations. In addition to the essay, applicants must submit two letters of recommendation (teacher, neighbor, counselor, boss), proof of school registration and proof of residency in zip codes 92007 or 92024. Send the original application and supporting material to Scholarship Panel, Friends of the Cardiff-by-the-Sea Library, P.O. Box 657, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, CA 92007; or deliver to the Cardiff-by-the-Sea Library or Book Nook. How Are Applications Evaluated? A panel of judges selected from the community will evaluate the essays and supporting materials, and select the top five applications received. Winners will be notified on or before June 1, 2010.
